Barron Collier Cos. has withdrawn its offer to donate 50 acres to Jackson Laboratory for a genetics research expansion in Collier County, effectively sealing the fate of the controversial project on the heels of Jackson’s decision to look elsewhere. It seems that Jackson Labs has started discussions with the University of South Florida to open their facility on a campus of the university.
I'm sure that the Ave Maria deal fell through because of the resistance in Collier County to the price tag, but I wonder whether Jackson Labs sees an additional benefit in affiliating itself with a school that won't raise future questions with some of Jackson Labs's bioethical positions.
