Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade Bill Passes

I find it disgusting that the Waxman-Markey Bill passed the House 219-212, considering the fact that those who voted for it had not read the bill. In fact, the debate and vote occurred without the bill actually existing, strictly speaking. (I was similarly disgusted with the stimulus bill passing without members of the House - or even their staff - having read it, and thus, not actually knowing what was in it.) And don't even get me started on the merits (or lack thereof) of Waxman-Markey and the fallacy of global warming.

8 Republicans voted for the bill, and one of the names caught my eye: Chris Smith from New Jersey. Isn't he a "friend" of Ave Maria Law? Am I remembering correctly - didn't he visit AMSL at some point? What is he doing voting for this travesty of a bill?
