The Wanderer's Blog

Sometime back, AveWatch brought to our attention the observation of journalist Neal J. Conway, that the Catholic Press--with few exceptions--has been silent on the Ave Maria Affair. One of those exceptions has been The Wanderer. As the nation's oldest independent Catholic weekly (140+ years!), The Wanderer has provided much needed commentary on a whole host of issues from an orthodox Catholic perspective and--I might add--with fierce loyalty to the Magisterium. The good folks at The Wanderer kept the pilot light of faith burning through the turbulent years of the immediate aftermath of the Second Vatican Council and was a strong supporter of JPII's "restoration." Likewise, The Wanderer continues this tradition today and provides much food for thought from the same robustly Catholic perspective. Personally, I was introduced to the Wanderer when I was in 8th grade, and the paper helped form me as a pugnacious Catholic during my high school and college years.

Among the many writers for The Wanderer are such respected fellows as Paul Likoudis; Prof. Charles E. Rice; Dr. Christopher Manion ( son of the late great Dean Clarence Manion of Notre Dame Law School; former professor at Notre Dame and sometime Professor at Christendom College); Fr. John Zuhlsdorf (author of the tremendously popular and insightful article What Does the Prayer Really Say? which is also the name of his popular blog); Thomas Roeser (conservative Chicago political commentator and former official in the Nixon administration).

Mr. Conway was right to point out The Wanderer as being one of the few Catholic publications that has been reporting on the disfunction in the Ave Maria Universe. One need only recall the following: here, here, here, here, and here. (These are merely a few.) Now some of The Wanderer's authors have established a blog. This is a welcome development and will enrich the blogosphere with the insightful commentary on things Catholic, cultural, and political.

Visit The Wanderer's blog and check back often. Even better, subscribe to the paper here--well worth the dough!
