Subject: tenure denial / leave of absence
Dear members of the Ave Maria School of Law community,
Yesterday, we were surprised and saddened to learn that the Board of Governors of the Law School has (1) denied our applications for tenure; and (2) placed us on leave of absence for the 2007-08 academic year (which we have been advised is our "terminal" year on the faculty). We are confident that these decisions do not appropriately recognize our accomplishments in teaching, scholarship, and service to the Law School. Accordingly, we have communicated to Dean Dobranski our intention to appeal.
Although the appeal process could not conclude in time for us to be reinstated to the Fall 2007 course schedule, it is our sincere hope that we will rejoin our colleagues in active service on the faculty in the future.
Please keep us and our entire community in your prayers.
In Christ,
Edward C. Lyons
