AMSL Parent Speaks

Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 09:15:50 -0700 (PDT)
From: Janet Hoffman
Subject: A Concerned Parent's Plea
To: Dean Bernard Dobranski
CC: Laura Hoffman, Jeff Randolph, Ermin Gornik

Dear Dean Dobranski,

I am the parent of a recent graduate of Ave Maria School of Law writing to express my disappointment with the recent news concerning the administration of the law school. My daughter Laura chose Ave Maria over other reputable law schools because of the character and integrity of faculty members such as Professor Stephen J. Safranek and its commitment in accordance with the Catholic Church through its mission of respecting the dignity of the human person. When Laura selected Ave Maria School of Law to receive her legal education, our family was also welcomed into the Ave Maria family. A large part of the reason my daughter decided to join the Catholic Church during her time as a law student at Ave Maria was her observations of members of this community, in particular, professors like Stephen Safranek who demonstrated to her the ability to live the Catholic faith in her personal and professional life.

I am writing to ask you to seriously consider your actions as the head of this institution. In particular, I am asking that you reinstate the employment of Professor Safranek who I have had the pleasure of meeting on numerous occasions at the law school and a man I've heard nothing but praise of by Laura since she originally became he student her first year of law school. My daughter has greatly benefited from the extraordinary relationships she developed during her time at Ave Maria and the closeness of this special community. The character of this community would not be the same without the impact of professors like Stephen Safranek who have not only dedicated themselves to teaching these students the law but have embraced the opportunities to nurture these students in their spiritual lives and professional development.

My husband and I continue to pray that your mind and heart are opened to doing what is right in this matter regarding Professor Safranek.

Janet Hoffman
