The Thirst for Beauty in Jesus Christ

What soul does not thirst to be filled?

At times during this Holy Week, I've caught myself groaning at the inappropriateness of this or that choice of music during the liturgy, or the banal reading of the passion narrative which excels at bludgeoning the congregation into a stupor so that we miss the power and beauty of it all. With these instruments of torture upon most parishes in America, I'm not surprised that Holy Week becomes viewed as a kind of obligatory liturgical marathon rather than the wedding feast it is meant to be with all that intensity of joy.

But, who am I to complain about liturgy on the day, our Lord covered the pillar with his body and took the scourging?

In the spirit of Holy Week and in our thirst for beauty in our Lord, I invite you all to tune in at 3:00 pm (if not at Church) and listen and meditate on the video above. It is St. John's Passion chanted in English.

Thanks to the good folk at Godzdogz.
