In the fine movie Judgment at Nuremberg
, Spencer Tracy plays Judge Dan Haywood--an American judge who sits on a panel which judges the Judges and Lawyers of the Third Reich. Though a dramatization, it accurately portrays the series of trials that took place at the end of World War II and in particular the legal positivism reinforced from the bench that made the atrocities of the Third Reich possible. The most memorable quote of the film (spoken by Judge Haywood):"Before the people of the world--let it now be noted in our decision here, that this is what we stand for: justice, truth...and the value of a single human being!"Thank you, Mr. President, for upholding this today.
