Judge Susan Bieke Nielson, R. I. P.

I didn't realize until just now that Judge Susan Bieke Neilson, good friend of Ave Maria School of Law and (no thanks to Michigan's senators and the liberals on the Senate Judiciary Committee) very recent confirmee to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, passed away last Wednesday night at the age of 49. Here's a link to Howard Bashman's coverage, which includes all the other relevant links Howard is so good at providing. And here's a Free Press story from the weekend.

I met Judge Neilson several times during her visits to the law school, often to lend her time and talent as a moot court judge. She was a lady in every sense, and clearly enjoyed interacting with the newest members of her profession. The legal community -- not to mention the community as a whole -- was bettered by her time here on earth.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
